In an era when fewer and fewer civil cases go to trial, Skip Finkbohner has consistently won major court battles across a wide range of different types of cases, including product liability, wrongful death, complex commercial litigation, fraud, industrial accidents, environmental, medical malpractice, and others.

After graduating from college at Duke University (magna cum laude), and then from Duke Law School, the Mobile Alabama native achieved early success in the courtroom. This inspired him to fight for those who he felt were wronged, knowing that with enough preparation, and by adhering to ethical values, he could help improve the lives of others by fighting for them rather than taking unfair settlements.

Skip has represented plaintiffs in many cases that resulted in record-breaking jury verdicts, including the two of the three largest jury verdicts in Alabama since 2003. These include his representation of the following:

  • Dr. Peter Mannsfeld, a scientist, against Ineos Phenol GmbH & CO., KG, which resulted in a $192 million verdict. This was the largest verdict ever achieved in Mobile County, and the largest ever achieved in Alabama for an intellectual property/trade secrets case.
  • The family of Sharron Juno against Thomas Hospital and Precise Solutions in a medical malpractice/wrongful death case in Baldwin County, which is generally considered one of the most conservative venues in Alabama. The trial of this case resulted in a $140 million verdict, which was the largest ever achieved in Baldwin County, and the largest ever achieved in a medical malpractice trial in Alabama. Skip was featured on Great Trials Podcast discussing the facts of this verdict in November, 2019.
  • The parents of Tiffany Stabler in a product liability case against Kia for a defective seatbelt that resulted in their daughter’s death during a single vehicle accident. The trial of this case resulted in a $40 million verdict, the largest verdict ever achieved in Mobile County for a case involving a single death.
  • The family of Ben Brackett in an industrial accident, electrical contact wrongful death case against Alabama Power Company. The trial of this case resulted in a $20 million verdict.

Skip applies years of experience and invests the time necessary to understand the details of every case. Working tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcome for his clients, he has traveled to India, the Ukraine, Europe, and throughout the United States to subpoena and obtain testimony from witnesses. He even ordered a team of engineers to tear apart a marine engine the size of a tractor trailer rig to identify a single missing bolt that had caused a large explosion and ship fire.

Skip Finkbohner is a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers.  He is also an Advocate Fellow in the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Millions of Americans are injured and thousands are killed each year as a result of defective consumer products. We live in a consumer-based society where the list of potentially deadly products expands by the hour. Though the range of product liability cases is broad, the claims typically involve the defective manufacture of a product, defective design of the product, or failure to provide adequate warnings or instructions about using the product properly.

The probability that multiple parties, including the manufacturer, distributor, retailer and others in the supply chain, will be involved only adds to the complexity of the case. Demonstrating that the manufacturer or other entity was responsible for an individual’s death can be extremely difficult to prove. Our attorneys rely on the expert testimony of engineers, doctors, and other professionals who have an exhaustive understanding of product development, medicine, and government regulations in order to ensure each of our client’s claims has a strong foundation.

At Cunningham Bounds, we have successfully represented victims in all kinds of product liability cases, and our track record of success is no accident. We have the experience, the know-how, and the resources to navigate even the most complex product case. We also have the ability to retain highly qualified experts to help prove your case. If you or a loved one have been injured or killed due to a defective product, let us help you.

Founded in 1958, the law firm of Cunningham Bounds is based in Mobile, Alabama and has been representing plaintiffs in litigation for over 60 years. Today, the firm also continues its tradition of excellence in business and complex litigation. Our attorneys represent victims in cases involving catastrophic injury caused by work related accidents, defective products, truck and automobile accidents, and medical malpractice. The firm also has expertise in national and state class action litigation involving defective products and consumer fraud.

Our firm was born out of the desire to create change and improve lives. We thoroughly prepare each case. We leave no stone unturned, no evidence untouched, and no detail unexamined. This precision and focus ensures that we present your very best case to the jury.

Today, our goal remains as it was in 1958 – to achieve the best possible result for each client by holding people and companies accountable for their wrongdoing.

Cunningham Bounds has a reputation of being one of the toughest in the state. But even that had to be built up slowly and carefully the founding partners say. These days, due to our success, we have the luxury of taking the cases that other lawyers can’t even afford to try.
